Kaveri Kookkural Movement's symposium on feasible pepper cultivation in plains will be held on April 28 across four locations in Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Kaveri Kookkural Movement is set to hold a symposium demonstrating viable pepper cultivation in plain areas. This event is scheduled across four locations in Tamil Nadu on the single day of April 28. Tamilmaran, the field coordinator for the movement, revealed that traditionally, pepper cultivation was thought feasible only in hilly regions. However, their grassroots experience proves otherwise.
This initiative comes after successful implementation in fields across Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and more where advanced farmers have been cultivating peppers profitably in plains for many years. It is reported that some farmers earn up to Rs. 6 lakh per acre solely from pepper, significantly more profitable than other intercrops. Additionally, some are also involved in exporting their produce internationally.
The symposium will feature sessions where pioneering farmers and agricultural scientists from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka will discuss varietal selection, cultivation practices, harvest techniques, and marketing and export opportunities. High-ranking officials and professionals such as the Deputy Director of the Indian Crop Science Board, Simanta Saikia, and ICAR - IISR’s lead scientist, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, are expected to speak at the event.
