Secure Storage and Surveillance for EVMs in Tirupur Constituency Following Successful Voting

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the Tirupur constituency during the parliamentary elections were sealed and secured in the presence of political party representatives, with strict surveillance measures implemented.

Coimbatore: Following the lively completion of parliamentary elections across Tamil Nadu yesterday, the attention shifted to the secure storage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). In Tirupur constituency, encompassing six assembly segments, voting processes spanned from morning till late evening across 1,745 polling stations. Post-voting, these EVMs were securely transported to the storage facility at LRG Government Arts and Science College on Palladam Road, Tirupur, under the vigilance of accredited political party members and the presence of Kranthi Kumar Pati, the district collector, and Chief Election Officer Christuraj.

Multiple layers of security were implemented to safeguard the EVMs. In addition to sealing them in specifically designated rooms, the college premises were equipped with 282 surveillance cameras operating round the clock to ensure continuous monitoring. Furthermore, three layers of armed Central Armed Police Forces were deployed outside the storage facilities, bolstering the safekeeping measures.

Access to the storage sites was restricted, with only candidates having valid identification allowed within the specified areas, ensuring no unauthorized entry. The stringent protocols in place underscore the importance of maintaining the integrity and security of the electoral process, as the machines contain the crucial votes of thousands of citizens.
