Man Arrested for Attempting to Vote Twice in Coimbatore, Released on Bail

A 52-year-old man from Nallampalayam, Coimbatore, was arrested and later released on bail for attempting to vote twice during the Parliamentary elections held on April 19.

Coimbatore: In a surprising turn of events during the recent Parliamentary elections, Thirunavukkarasu, a 52-year-old resident of Nallampalayam, was arrested for attempting to vote twice. Officials at booth number 145 in the Nallampalayam municipal school caught him presenting his already inked right index finger, indicating he had already voted.

Further investigations revealed that Thirunavukkarasu attempted to vote a second time after having voted once in Gandhipuram. After officials noticed this, they alerted the election officer, Latha Maheswari, who then filed a complaint at the Goundampalayam Police Station. Thirunavukkarasu admitted during the interrogation to having voted in both Gandhipuram and Nallampalayam. Following this, police registered a case under sections 171(D) and 171 F(2) and arrested him. He was later released on bail.

This incident brings to light the vigilance of the election staff and the importance of electoral laws in preserving the integrity of democratic processes.
