Public Protest for Insufficient Buses During Voting Day in Tirupur

In Tirupur, workers from various districts gathered at the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Central Bus Station to protest against the lack of sufficient buses to travel to their hometowns for voting, leading to overcrowded conditions.

Coimbatore: As Tamil Nadu conducted its parliamentary elections today, a significant issue unfolded at Kalaignar Karunanidhi Central Bus Station in Tirupur. Many people, eager to travel to their hometowns to vote, found themselves stranded due to an insufficient number of buses. Amidst the declared holiday by the state government to ensure maximum voter turnout, numerous workers from districts like Thiruvannamalai reported to the central bus station. However, they were met with a shortage of transport facilities.

The situation escalated into a confrontation as the public besieged buses, arguing with drivers and conductors about the inadequate bus services. The locals criticized the transport department for not planning sufficient bus routes, particularly to distant districts, on such a crucial day. As a result, packed buses made conditions unbearable for travelers, some of whom described the experience as being "stuck in wreckage unable to breathe."

The issue highlighted the difficulties faced by citizens in smaller towns during important events like elections, where adequate public infrastructure is critical. This event has sparked a discussion on the need for better planning and resources in public transportation to accommodate significant public movements on special days.
