The Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore is gearing up for the Tamil Thembu celebrations, featuring the inaugural Rekla Race, country cattle market, and a variety of cultural events from March 15 to March 17, 2024.

Coimbatore: The vibrant Tamil Thembu, a nine-day cultural fiesta, is set to celebrate Tamil Nadu's rich spiritual and cultural heritage at the Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore. Among the highlights is the first-ever Rekla Race (Bullock Cart Race) on March 17, 2024, drawing large crowds eager to witness the traditional sport that symbolizes the enduring relationship between farmers and their cattle.

From March 15 to March 17, 2024, the Yoga Center will also host a country cattle market, offering a platform for the buying and selling of cattle, enhancing the agricultural and cultural ambiance of the event.

Adding to the festivities, a special Kolam competition for women is scheduled for March 16, promising cash awards totaling up to Rs 33,000 for the winners. This competition is aimed at celebrating and preserving the traditional art form intrinsic to Tamil culture.

The Tamil Thembu celebrations, beginning after Mahashivratri, feature a series of events held in the shadow of the majestic 112-feet Adiyogi statue. Visitors can explore exhibitions that traverse Tamil history, displaying the rich tapestry of Yogis, temples, and kings, along with cultural performances and showcases of native cattle breeds.

The event is adorned with exhibitions about the 'Three Crowned rulers' of Tamil Nadu, the spiritual essence of Tamil temples, and the revered 63 Nayanmars and 12 Azhwars. It also pays homage to significant Tamil personalities through placards and cut-outs, enriching visitors' understanding of Tamil Nadu's illustrious past.

Priyadharishini, a festival attendee from Coimbatore, shared her experience, stating, “The festival was an enlightening journey through Tamil culture. It's incredible to witness our heritage brought to life through this celebration.”

The festival's evenings are animated with folk art performances from various corners of Tamil Nadu, alongside displays of native Indian cattle breeds. Additionally, a Siddha medicine stall offers insights into traditional Tamil medicinal practices.

The country cow market and the Kolam competition are particular attractions, designed to engage the community and promote Tamil Nadu's agricultural and artistic traditions.
