Ganga Hospital Hosts Lymphedema Awareness Exhibition in Coimbatore

Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore has inaugurated an exhibition on Lymphedema on March 4, 2024, to enhance awareness about the condition and its treatments, featuring prominent medical professionals and innovative treatment options.

Coimbatore: In a significant move to raise awareness about Lymphedema, a condition characterized by swelling of the limbs due to lymphatic obstruction, Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore has launched an exclusive exhibition this March 2024. The exhibition aims to shed light on the causes, prevention, and treatment options for Lymphedema, a condition that arises from various factors including cancer treatment, filariasis, trauma, or congenital issues leading to inadequate lymphatic channels.

Lymphedema not only causes discomfort but also significantly hampers mobility, making daily activities challenging for those affected. The condition can escalate to severe infections and potentially fatal sepsis without proper management. However, with timely intervention through non-surgical methods like compression garments, physiotherapy, and manual lymphatic drainage, or advanced surgical treatments, patients can lead substantially improved lives.

The Lymphedema Awareness Exhibition was inaugurated by Kanagavalli Shanmuganathan, Managing Director of Ganga Hospital, in the esteemed presence of Dr. S. Mardudurai, State Program Officer of the National Health Mission, Tamil Nadu. Key insights into the condition and its management were shared by Dr. Rajasabapathy, Chairman of the Division of Plastic Surgery, and Dr. Hari Venkatramani, President of the Indian Association of Plastic Surgeons, highlighting the critical importance of awareness and early intervention.

This initiative is part of the broader Lymphedema Awareness Week, celebrated from March 4th to 10th, and Lymphedema Awareness Month throughout March 2024, underlining the hospital's commitment to educating the public and empowering patients with Lymphedema to seek and receive appropriate care promptly.
