Coimbatore: In a significant health drive across Coimbatore, Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar inaugurated a comprehensive polio vaccination camp today, March 3, 2024, at the Seethalakshmi Puram Urban Primary Health Centre. The camp is part of a city-wide initiative overseen by Municipal Commissioner Mr. Ma. Sivaguru Prabakaran, IAS, and Deputy Mayor Mr. R. Vetriselvan, aiming to bolster the health infrastructure in line with polio eradication efforts.
This initiative spans the entire city, targeting all children under the age of five across 100 wards within the jurisdiction of Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. A total of 327 polio vaccination camps, along with 7 transit camps at railway and bus stations, 14 mobile units, 45 urban welfare centers, and 3 major commercial complexes, have been established to facilitate the vaccination drive.
Additionally, the campaign has mobilized a workforce of 1,482 individuals, including public health department officials, employees, supervisors, volunteers, and NGO representatives. The launch event was attended by Public Health Committee Chairman Mr. P. Mariselvan, Council Member Mrs. Sharmila, Urban Health Officer Dr. Vasanth Diwakar, health inspectors, doctors, and other municipal officials, highlighting the collective effort to protect the city's youngest residents from polio.
