Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Inaugurates Dharapuram Government Arts and Science College via Video Conference

In a virtual ceremony valued at Rs. 12.46 crore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister inaugurates the Dharapuram Government Arts and Science College, with the participation of ministers Ma Subramanian, Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, and other dignitaries.


Coimbatore: In a landmark event for the Tirupur district and the historic town of Dharapuram, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister inaugurated the Dharapuram Government Arts and Science College through a video conference. The ceremony, marking a significant investment of Rs. 12.46 crore, was attended by Tamil Development and Information Minister Ma Subramanian, Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, among other esteemed guests including District Collector Christuraj, Erode MP Ganesamoorthy.

This initiative aims to provide educational opportunities for the economically backward communities surrounding Dharapuram, one of the oldest towns in the Tirupur district. The college, which started on 07.07.2022, offers five undergraduate programs: B.A. in Tamil, B.A. in English, B.Sc in Maths, B.Sc in Chemistry, and B.Com, catering to the educational aspirations of the region's youth.



Initially operating temporarily from the premises of the Dharapuram Government Boys Higher Secondary School, the college currently educates 173 students in its first year and another 173 in its second, with 90% being first-generation college students.

The Tamil Nadu government has allocated 5 acres of land near the Government Industrial Training Institute on Tirupur Road for the construction of a permanent campus. The foundation stone was laid on 22.12.2022. The new campus will feature 18 classrooms, 3 science laboratories, a computer lab, a central library, five department-specific libraries, an auditorium, and sanitation facilities across three floors.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by numerous officials including Revenue Officer Jaibeem, Revenue Divisional Officer Senthil Arasan, Joint Director of Education Kalaichelvi, Public Works Department Engineer Thirunavukkarasu, Tirupur Municipality's 4th Zone Chairman Il. Padmanaban, Principal Padmavathi of the Dharapuram Government Arts and Science College, Dharapuram Municipality Chairman Pappukannan, Assistant Engineers Rajeskumar and Boopathy, students, local body representatives, and department officials.

This college's establishment is a testament to the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and accessibility in rural and underserved regions, thereby fostering community development and uplifting the socio-economic status of its inhabitants.
