Coimbatore District AIADMK and Friends Chess Club Hosts Chess Tournament Honoring MGR's 107th and Jayalalithaa's 76th Birth Anniversaries

In commemoration of MGR's 107th and Jayalalithaa's 76th birth anniversaries, the Coimbatore District AIADMK, in collaboration with the Friends Chess Club, organized district-level junior and open chess competitions at Periyanayakanpalayam, led by MLA B.R.G. Arunkumar, with over 500 participants and 100+ winners awarded.


Coimbatore: Celebrating the 107th birth anniversary of MGR and the 76th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the Coimbatore District AIADMK and Friends Chess Club jointly conducted junior and open chess tournaments at Periyanayakanpalayam. The event, presided over by Coimbatore Suburban District Secretary and Periyanayakanpalayam MLA B.R.G. Arunkumar, saw the participation of over 500 players ranging from 5 to 70 years of age.



The tournament featured competitions in both junior and open categories, with more than 100 winners being awarded cash prizes and trophies. Additionally, individuals who have previously achieved national recognition in chess were honored during the event.

The competition was held at a private wedding hall in Periyanayakanpalayam, bringing together chess enthusiasts from across the district. Notable attendees included K.V.N. Jayaraman, East Union Secretary of Periyanayakanpalayam, Gurunathasalam, Secretary of Koodalur Nagar, Raghunathan, Secretary of Periyanayakanpalayam Panchayat, Sasikumar, District Youth Wing Secretary, Ramaraj, Panchayat Secretary of Veerapandi, Councilor Manickam, and Coimbatore District Chess Association Joint Secretary Arumugam, among others.



This event not only commemorated the significant contributions of MGR and Jayalalithaa to Tamil Nadu but also fostered a spirit of competition and camaraderie among the participants. The success of the tournament highlights the enduring legacy of these leaders and the ongoing passion for chess in the region.
