Thousands of Devotees Fulfill Vows by Fire Walking at Maasani Amman Temple Festival Near Pollachi

The renowned Maasani Amman Temple near Pollachi witnessed a surge of devotees from various states participating in the annual fire walking ritual to fulfill their vows during the Kundam Festival.

Coimbatore: The Maasani Amman Temple, known for its fame near Pollachi in the Anaimalai region, saw devotees thronging from not just Tamil Nadu but neighboring states for the annual Kundam Thiruvizha (Festival).

This year's festival, which started on February 9 with the hoisting of the temple flag, peaked with the significant Mayana Puja on February 22. The highlight of the event, the fire walking ritual, commenced this morning, where devotees walked across fire to offer their Nerthikadan (vows) to the deity. A 41-foot-long fire pit was prepared, and temple authorities, including the temple's Arulalies, carried sacred items like the Tharai Thappattai ornaments and Trishul to the site amidst the sounds of traditional musical instruments. The act of fire walking by thousands of devotees is a testament to their belief in the goddess fulfilling their prayers. Local dignitaries, including the Anaimalai Town Panchayat Leader Kalaichelvi, MLA Pollachi Jayaraman, Amul Kandasamy, DMK Anaimalai Town Secretary Dr. Senthil, and DMK General Committee Member Shanthalingakumar, were present at the event.
