Symbolic Strike and Protest by Government Employees and Teachers in Tirupur

Government employees, teachers, and local body staff in Tirupur staged a one-day symbolic strike and protest outside the Municipal Office, demanding fulfillment of a ten-point agenda including pension scheme restoration and other benefits.

Tirupur: In a significant display of unity and demand for rights, the collective associations of Tamil Nadu government employees, teachers, and local body staff organized a one-day symbolic strike and protest in front of the Tirupur Municipal Office. The protest, held to voice their demands, focused on a ten-point agenda crucial for their welfare and job security. Key demands included the restoration of the old pension scheme as promised in the DMK's election manifesto, reinstatement of encashment of leave benefits, disbursement of the pending 21-month arrears as per the Seventh Pay Commission, and immediate filling of all vacant positions to ensure promotion opportunities.

The demonstrators, who gathered in large numbers, emphasized the urgency of their demands by setting a deadline for the Tamil Nadu government to address their concerns by February 26. They warned of an indefinite protest starting from that date if their demands were not met. Furthermore, the participants vowed to express their dissent against the government in the upcoming parliamentary elections if their electoral promises remained unfulfilled.

This protest is a critical reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by government employees, teachers, and local body staff in securing their rights and benefits. The collective action aims to hold the government accountable for its promises and ensure that the welfare of these essential service providers is not overlooked.
