Coimbatore: The celebrated Kundam Festival at the Masani Amman Temple in Anaimalai, near Pollachi, started off with a grand beginning on February 9th. This festival, which takes place annually in the Tamil month of Masi, is known for its vibrant traditions and attracts a large number of devotees.

This year, the festivities began with the ceremonial hoisting of an 85-foot tall bamboo pole, a tradition that marks the official commencement of the festival. The bamboo, sourced from the Sarkarpathy forest area, was carried to the temple in a procession accompanied by the beating of melathalams (traditional drums) and the euphoric chants of the gathered devotees. It was then ritually placed in front of the temple's Rajagopuram (main tower), symbolizing the start of the festival.

Thousands of devotees from various districts including Coimbatore, Madurai, and Dindigul, participated in the event, imbued with a sense of devotion and spiritual fervor. The main rituals of the Kundam Festival, including the Mayana Pooja on the 23rd night and the climax of the festival with the Kundam being lowered on the 25th morning, are highly anticipated events that draw crowds seeking blessings from the deity Masani Amman.
