Coimbatore District Women's Self-Help Groups Receive Rs 43 Crore Loan Assistance

As part of the Tamil Nadu State Rural and Urban Livelihood Movement, women's self-help groups across Coimbatore District have been provided with Rs 43 crore in bank loans to boost self-employment and economic advancement.


Coimbatore: In a significant boost to women's self-employment and economic progress in Coimbatore District, women's self-help groups have been granted a total of Rs 43 crore in loan assistance.

This financial aid, facilitated under the Tamil Nadu State Rural and Urban Livelihood Movement for the fiscal year 2023-24, aims at empowering women by providing them with the necessary capital to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods. The target set for bank loan linkage for these groups was Rs 924 crore.

The loan distribution event was conducted through a video conference, launched by Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin in Erode District, extending the financial benefits to the self-help groups in Coimbatore as well.



At a ceremony held in Coimbatore R.S. Puram Municipality Hall, District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati and Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran handed over the loan cheques. Rural self-help groups received Rs 13.45 crore, while urban groups were allocated Rs 33.78 crore.



A total of 6835 women from various self-help groups in the district are set to benefit from this initiative, enabling them to pursue or enhance diverse self-employment ventures such as tailoring, catering, floristry, goat and cow rearing, and poultry farming.



Representatives from these groups expressed their gratitude, noting that the loan assistance significantly exceeds their expectations and will greatly contribute to their economic empowerment. They also conveyed their heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for his support in facilitating these loans.
