Journey for Unity - Orumai Payanam is an ambitious journey which aims to promote mutual understanding and oneness among the different religious communities in India. It is a great initiative taken by a few activists and social workers to spread awareness on religious unity and the prevention of violence, especially Violence Against Children.
Coimbatore: The aim of this "Journey for unity - Orumai payanam" journey is to spread awareness on religious unity & the prevention of violence especially Violence Against Children. The program started at 9.30am starting from the Arulmigu Koniamman Temple, Town hall.
Vijayaragavan Shanti Ashram gave the welcome address.
Abdul Hakkim (Secretary Jamaat e Islami Hind) Commenced the journey. Total no of 85 children & teachers from 14 different schools had given their active participation including the school staff.
V.Balakrishanan, IPS Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City had started the event with a speech of religious unity in a scientific way. Chanthra Mathi, executive officer, lectured about the history of Koni Amman kovil.
The journey continues to Gurudwara Singh Sabha, R.S Puram. In the Athar Jamaath Masjid, Town Hall. Everyone was allowed to go into the Masjid. Students posed several questions, and the Imam responded appropriately. They provided snacks and juices to the students.
They experienced Silent prayer at the Suparshvanath Jain Temple, R.G.Street, Townhall. Students were given the opportunity to interact with the saints. After the interaction they provided lunch to all.
'Journey for Unity' reached St.Michael's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Town hall. The infrastructure was huge & everyone was allowed to visit inside the church.
Finally, they gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial. Pothanur (MGM). Visited the Mahatma Gandhi museum. Concluded the programme at Open hall.
This programme raised awareness among children and youth about Coimbatore's Religious and Cultural Heritage.
Students from Islamiya Matriculation School and volunteers from the Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO) took part. The event was coordinated by Abdul Hakkim, Secretary of Jamaat e Islami Hind and hosted by Shanti Ashram Youth Wing head Vijaya Ragavan.
