Farmers on Padhayatra demanding implementation of Anaimalai-Nallar project

Coimbatore MP R Natarajan inaugurated the 55-km three-day farmers' Padhayatra from Palladam Arulpuram to Udumalaipettai to demand the implementation of the Anaimalai-Nallar project, the dream project of farmers of Coimbatore-Tirupur district.

Tirupur: Coimbatore MP R Natarajan inaugurated a 55-km walkathon by farmers demanding implementation of the Anaimalai-Nallar project.

The farmers of Coimbatore-Tirupur district have been demanding for years that a dam should be constructed at Anaimalai Nallar in the Parambikulam Aliyar irrigation project, a long-standing demand of the farmers, to overcome the water scarcity.

In the previous regime, a draft plan was given for the implementation of the scheme, but after the change of government, the project was put on hold again.

The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association has launched a padayatra called "Namma Nallar" from Arulpuram near Palladam today demanding immediate implementation of the project by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan participated in the event and flagged off the walkathon.

More than 200 farmers have started their padayatra from Arulpuram, raising slogans demanding the implementation of the project.

They will undertake a three-day walk through Palladam, Kethanur and Gudimangalam and complete the padayatra at Udumalaipettai.

Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan addressed the media after the event. "We have started this padayatra to urge the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to immediately talk to the Government of Kerala and allocate funds for the project and implement the Anaimalai Nallar project immediately," he said.
