Forest Minister Mathivendan will visit Courtallam, Sadivayal Elephant Camp and Valparai for three days. As a part of this, he inspected courtallam in Coimbatore today and listened to the grievances of the tribal people.
Coimbatore: Forest Minister Mathiventhan announced that Rs 1.3 crore has been set up for basic amenities in Courtallam, Coimbatore.
Mathivendan, the Forest Minister, would spend three days in Courtallam, Sadivayal Elephant Camp, and Valparai.
Accordingly, Forest Minister Mathivendan and forest department officials inspected courtallam, Sadivayal elephant camp, and Siruvani water treatment plant in Coimbatore. He met the tribal people there and listened to their demands.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Minister Mathiventhan said that the Chief Minister has announced Rs 8 crore for the development of Sadivayal Elephant Camp. A sum of Rs.5 crore has been announced for the upgradation of Kozhikamuthi Elephant Camp and Rs.7 crore for the upgradation of Theppakadu Elephant Camp.
Funds have been allocated so that all the tourists can come here and enjoy it and get to know about them. Work on the same will be taken up soon. Rs 10 lakh has also been given to the elephant keepers and helpers for the construction of houses at Mudumalai elephant camp.
An incentive of Rs 1 lakh has also been allocated. Responding to a question on elephant deaths, the minister said elephant deaths are natural. According to our calculations, about 80 to 120 elephants die naturally every year due to illness. Not only that, if the elephants fall somewhere, they can also die of the shock.
Steps are being conducted in collaboration with the Electricity Department to reduce elephant deaths caused by electricity and other factors.
To prevent elephant fatalities caused by train collisions, steps are being conducted to detect elephant movement using Artificial Intelligence (AI) devices.
Beyond this, if there is any disease attack on elephants, the forest department doctor is there to protect them as much as possible. All steps are being taken to ensure that elephants can be protected by the forest department.
Steps will be taken to meet the shortage of staff in the forest department as soon as possible. We have allocated and implemented separate funds for how to conserve forest areas, protect wildlife, etc., using existing technologies.
A sum of Rs.1.3 crore has been allocated for repairing the routes for tourists at Courtallam in Coimbatore and providing all necessary toilet facilities. We will repair which roads can be repaired within the forest as per the demands of the people and we are advising them further.
