Land will only be leased out by State govt for expansion of Coimbatore airport - Finance Minister Palanivel ThiagaRajan

The land provided by the Tamil Nadu government for the expansion of Coimbatore airport will be leased out to the Airports Authority of India/Union Government only. Finance Minister P T R Palanivel Thiagarajan said that the rights will not be fully given to the Central government which in turn is giving it away to private companies.

Coimbatore: Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan has said that the land for the expansion of the Coimbatore airport will not be transferred entirely to the Central government.

Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thyagarajan tweeted about the expansion of coimbatore airport.

"The Tamil Nadu government will provide the required land to the Airports Authority of India and the central government only on lease. It will not transfer the ownership to the central government as before.

The lease includes a clause that the lease amount will be kept at the minimum token value as long as the airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India.

If the Central government decides to hand over the airport to private parties, the lease amount for Tamil Nadu will reflect the then market value of the land. Or give the Tamil Nadu government the then equal stake in the airport.

Tamil Nadu has rejected the Airports Authority of India's recommendation that they should have the right to give the land to a private operator (on concessional lease rent) on a sub-lease without the state government's permission (at token value and lease fee). “
