World Autism day celebrated by Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy

Coimbatore: Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy (KPA) organized a World Autism Awareness Day program, INQ- Fest 2023, an inclusive cultural event on Sunday at Kumaraguru College of Technology. More than 150 students along with their parents participated in this program.

International Autism Day is observed every year on April 2nd, to emphasize the need to spread awareness about the autism spectrum throughout the globe.



The inaugural was presided over by guest Thavathiru Kumaragurupara Swamigal Kaumaram Madalayam, Kranthi Kumar Pati I.A.S., District Collector, Coimbatore, S.V. Arumugam, Chairman & Managing Director, Bannari Amman Spinning Mills, Coimbatore, Dr. Uma Devi, Trustee - Shivanjali Trust, Chief Medical Officer - Shivanjali Hospital, Vasantha Ramakumar DDAWO, Coimbatore and Shankar Vanavarayar, President of Kumaraguru Institutions.

Other special guests include Taslima Nasreen, a transwoman entrepreneur and her team who graced the occasion to progress an effective movement of awareness.



While addressing the media on the essence of the event Deepa Mohanraj, Founder of Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy said, "Kaumaram is dedicated to delivering the best care for kids with autism.

The previous year we world on the theme of inclusive education but in the present year, we have organized this event on the theme of inclusive cultural events. An exceptional initiation wherein both the regular and autistic kids combine to perform various cultural events.

Neurotypical and neurodiverse kids come under the same umbrella to demonstrate their talents. We aim to make Coimbatore City the best place and an example of an inclusive city by all means."

In addition, she pointed out that earlier the numbers of autism were one in a hundred but the number has elevated in due course. This is a sign that awareness among people regarding autism has increased which aids in the early identification and subsequently provide therapy at the earliest.

Speaking of the symptoms she mentioned that the autistic spectrum is not much distinguishing from the regular needs, activities like speech disability, poor social interaction and lack of attention are indications that need immediate attention.



Eventually, the District Collector presented the awards to the students for their distinguished talents and achievements at the state and district levels. The event also witnessed cultural events including Singing, music, dance and tribal arts. The limelight was the spot sketching of Tamil poet Bharathiar and the dance performance of neuro-diverse kids along with their parents. An ideal inspiration that every individual is unique and socially equal.



Presenting the guest address, Kranthi Kumar Pati I.A.S., District Collector, Coimbatore appreciated the curriculum and initiatives of KPA. "The district administration in collaboration with KPA is indulged in diverse activities relating to special kids especially in treating people with Muscular dystrophy. The ultimate end result of this event is inclusivity which is the core of human life and is the best model of success. This grit is a perfect example of PPP and accomplishing social harmony."
