Injured TNSTC employee petitions district administration for 8 consecutive weeks for compensation to no avail

Mahendran had met with an accident in the Arasur area while returning home on March 16, 2020 which resulted in a severe fracture of his right leg, affecting his mobility and work.

Coimbatore: Mahendran (59), a resident of Vellalapatti area in Coimbatore had been working as a mechanic at the Sungam Bus Depot for over 30 years.

On March 16, 2020, Mahendran met with an accident in the Arasur area while returning home which resulted in a severe fracture of his right leg, affecting his mobility and work.

Mahendran reportedly spent Rs. 2 lakh on his medical treatment at a private hospital. Being an employee of TNSTC, Mahendran who was due to retire in a year had applied for a VRS instead due to his injury. He reported that there was a constant denial in claiming the insurance amount of Rs. 2 lakhs from TNSTC for which he has appealed to the district administration for eight consecutive weeks and yet hadn't received any consolation amount.

"Having worked for over 30 years, the company has not taken any initiative to provide me with an insurance amount. My family has suffered a great loss since I am jobless now due to my injuries.

It is my earnest request to the District Collector to take immediate action on my petition. Due to my physical weakness, I cannot travel repeatedly for a long duration. The district administration should consider my situation," petitioned Mahendran.
