Dist. Collector releases Bharathiar Memorial Centenary Books and song album on 141st birth anniversary of Mahakavi Bharathiar at city's Bharathiar University

At the 141st birth anniversary celebrations, the Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran also presented the Young Bharathi Award to students who won the Art and Literature competitions.


Coimbatore: Even as the country commemorated the 141st birth anniversary of Mahakavi Bharathiar on Sunday, celebrations in honour of the poet were held at the Bharathiar University in Coimbatore on Monday.



Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran released an album of Bharathiar's songs and the centenary books of Bharathiar's memorial.



Later, the Collector presented the Young Bharathi Award to students who won the Art and Literature competitions held at the 141st birth anniversary celebrations.

Speaking at the event, District Collector G S Sameeran said, "The Government of India has declared December 11, the birth anniversary of Bharathiyar, as 'National Languages Day.'

Last year, the Tamil Nadu Government had made 14 announcements in honour of Bharathiyar on his birth anniversary. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu inaugurated a museum with photographs at Bharathiyar's residence in Varanasi, on Sunday. Bharathiyar's songs should be played not only here but all over the world.

The compilation of Mahakavi Bharathiyar's modern play 'Panchali Sabatham' and Bharathiyar's songs as an album has been released today. You have to count the good. Through his songs, Bharathiyar has put forward the ideas of having clear and good knowledge.

Similarly, he has written several poems on women's rights and the abolition of caste. Bharathiar was a multi-faceted personality and had the ability to speak and write in 20 languages in India. Therefore, efforts are being made to translate Bharathiyar's poems into all languages in India," stated the Collector.



The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Prof. P Kaliraj, members of the Committee on Accountability, Dr. Vasuki, Dr. Lovlina, Head of the Tamil Department, Dr. C. Chitra and others were present on the occasion.
