Police on lookout for man who waylays Northeast youth and robs him near Peelamedu in Coimbatore

The unidentified person waylaid Ashiqul on the pretext of borrowing his phone and attacked him. He robbed him of Rs. 7,000 in cash and other valuables. Locals rescued Ashiqul who was seriously injured and rushed him to a hospital.



Coimbatore: Ashiqul-Al-Islam works as a Chef at the Hotel Arabian Nights in Peelamedu. He hails from Sajayi Badar village in the Northeastern state of Assam.

After finishing his work at the restaurant in Peelamedu, Ashiqul went to his friend's room via Lanka Corner Bridge to meet his friend who was from his hometown. It is reported that an unidentified person approached Ashiqul and asked him for his mobile to talk to a friend. However, as soon as he was given Ashiqul's mobile phone, the man reportedly pelted stones at Ashiqul and attacked him. He then stole Rs. 7,000 in cash and other valuables from Ashiqul and fled from the scene amidst Ashiqul's screams for help.

On hearing the commotion, the neighbours rushed to the spot and found that Ashiqul had suffered serious injuries on the left side of his head and on his upper lip. They immediately rushed him to a Government hospital.

The Ukkadam police have registered a case under Sections 392 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are on the lookout for the unidentified man who waylaid Ashiqul and robbed him.
