CII Coimbatore organises special interaction on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) at Coimbatore

The portal aims to leverage the quantum growth of digital capability of India in public procurement to resolve issues.


Coimbatore: CII Coimbatore organised a special interaction on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) at Coimbatore, on Wednesday.

Started as a state-of-the-art National Public Procurement Portal under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, the portal aims to leverage the quantum growth of digital capability of India in public procurement to resolve issues.

Addressing the session, A V Muralidharan, Deputy Director General and Deputy CEO, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) stated that industry members, primarily from the MSE sector should utilize this marketplace to grow their businesses as there are special schemes and provisions that favour sourcing of products and services by large PSEs and the Government Department.



Muralidharan stated that with about 4.28 lakh registered sellers in the portal, Tamil Nadu stands third among the states of India and added that the state has immense potential for further development. He also mentioned that the GeM is shortly planning to open a Facilitation Cell in Tamil Nadu with the presence of a nodal office who will support and facilitate all queries related to Tamil Nadu.

Muralidharan also expressed that a helpdesk support in Tamil for utilizing the GeM portal has begun functioning from October 2022. He further added that a similar help desk will be planned for an industrial city like Coimbatore, going forward. Besides this, several training seminars with coverage of all features and functionalities of the portal are also being planned for the sellers from across the state of Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, S Sudhakar, Co-Chairman, CII Southern Region Sub-Committee on Policy, MSME and EoDB & Managing Director, Turbo Engineers (Cbe), spoke on the initiatives undertaken by CII supporting the MSME sector in the state. On the aspect of utilizing the GeM portal, S Sudhakar stated that more efforts and involvement from the industry members is required for benefitting from the GeM Marketplace. He highlighted that industries from Tamil Nadu have received an order value of Rs. 1,108 crore since inception (MSMEs – 462 crore) out of a total national order value of Rs. 3 lakh crore.

He encouraged more players from Tamil Nadu to take part and take advantage of the GeM marketplace. S Sudhakar also requested interested organisations to join CII as a primary member to learn, update and equip on the latest business developments.
