Pregnant wild elephant dies during delivery near Valparai; unborn baby elephant was also found dead

25 years old pregnant elephant in the slushy area near the tea estate of Thaimudi Estate Central Sector No. 7 was found dead. It was revealed that the elephant had died of pain during childbirth and that the dead baby elephant was a female.


Valparai: Cholaiyar Dam, Urulikal, Cinchona, Chinna Kallar, Periya Kallar areas around Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, Coimbatore are areas where wild elephant herds move in large numbers.

To prevent elephants from entering the residential area where the estate tea workers live, patrolling and various steps are being taken by the forest department and anti-poaching guards.

Accordingly, yesterday, the forest department came to know that a female wild elephant was roaming in the area of Thaimudi Estate for the past three days, and they were actively monitoring the area.

In this situation, the tea estate workers informed the forest department that a mother elephant and a baby elephant<\b> were lying dead in the muddy area near the tea garden of Thaimudi Estate Central Sector No. 7.



Acting on the information, Manampally Forest Ranger Manikandan headed by the forest department and anti-poaching officers went to the spot and conducted an investigation.



The investigation revealed that the female wild elephant died while giving birth to the calf. Later, as instructed by Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Field Director, Deputy Field Director, Selvam and Veterinarian Vijayaragavan Manampally Forest Sarakar Manikandan came to the spot and examined the elephant.

Veterinarians and forest officials are conducting a post-mortem examination of the dead elephant. It is reported that the exact cause of death of the elephant will be known only after the post-mortem.



It was revealed that the dead female wild elephant was about 25 years old and died of labor pains during childbirth. It has also been revealed that the dead calf is a female.

The forest department buried the mother and baby elephants in the same area after post-mortem examination.

The death of a female elephant and her baby during childbirth has caused grief in the region.
