Bakery at Ettimadai in Coimbatore sealed for sale of gutka

Officials of the food safety department sealed the Amirtha Bakery in Ettimadai for selling gutka tobacco products in violation of law in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: On the orders of Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu, strict measures are being taken to stop the sale of ganja and gutka in the name of Operation 2.0 across Tamil Nadu.

As a part of it, on the orders of District SP Badrinarayanan, the Gutka items stored in the godowns are being confiscated and persons from outside states are being arrested.

Similarly, to prevent retail sales, special forces have been formed and surveillance has been intensified.

In this case, the shop owner who engages in selling in the first method will be fined Rs. 5,000, if caught for the second time, Rs.10,000 and if caught for the third time, a case will be registered, the police warned.

Also, for the 4th time, a warning has been given that shops selling Gutka products will be closed and sealed. In this case, Amirtha Bakery, owned by Leela Krishnan, operating in the Ettimadai division of Coimbatore, was fined for selling Gutka products banned by the Tamil Nadu government last September 2021, and the Gutka products were confiscated.

However, a case was registered as Gutka products continued to be sold in the same way. In spite of the warning, the college and school students once again sold gutka products in the bakery, so the officials led by Madukkarai District Food Safety Officer Sivanandam, accompanied by Madukkarai Police Inspector Vairam and kG chavadi Police Assistant Inspector Saravanan, closed and sealed the bakery. They also temporarily canceled the license of the shop and posted a notice to that effect.
