Sholayar Dam near Valparai is brim full due to heavy rains

Only 12 more feet of water is required to reach full capacity in Sholayar dam. The water level in the dam has risen by six feet in a single day. Similarly, if the rains continue, the dam is expected to be full in three days.


Coimbatore: With the southwest monsoon intensifying in Valparai, normal life of the people has been severely affected due to heavy rains accompanied by winds.

The south-west monsoon has been lashing heavily in Valparai for the past few days. Due to incessant rains, the PAP dams is rising rapidly. Due to heavy rains accompanied by winds, traffic was affected due to falling of trees and landslides at various places.

Due to the rain that pours in day and night, there is a severe cold engulfing the hills of Valparai too. The normal life of the people has been greatly affected. Due to heavy rains in Akkamalai and Karumalai areas, the Akkamalai sector, which is a source of drinking water, was filled up.

2,726 cusecs of water is being released from Upper Neerar dam and 237 cusecs of water is released from Lower Neerar dam to Sholayar dam.

As a result, the water level in the Sholayar dam was 148.72 feet at a height of 160 feet yesterday morning. The water level in the dam has risen by six feet in a single day. The dam has an inflow of 5,077 cusecs of water per second. 1,157 cusecs of water was released from the dam to parambikulam dam.

The water level in sholayar dam is yet to rise by 12 feet. Similarly, if the rains continue, the dam is expected to be full in three days.
