While earlier reports suggested that the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has completed the feasibility report, following which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared and submitted to the State government for its approval, more updates have poured in following an RTI report suggesting that the project will be executed at a cost of Rs.9,424 crore.

Social activist Dayanand Krishnan's RTI has revealed that the Metro Rail Lite is expected to be ready by 2027 and the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has proposed the project cost at Rs. 9,424 crore, covering a distance of 138.9 km in three phases.

With the DPR ready, the social activist has urged the Chief Minister to take a decision on the same and convey it to the Centre for further progress and implementation.
