Even as the construction of the new TASMAC outlet n MGR Nagar area on the road leading to Coimbatore's Arivoli Nagar is underway, women in the neighbourhood protested against the opening of the TASMAC outlet 10 days ago. On Wednesday, over 100 people gathered near the construction site and staged a protest after receiving information that the TASMAC outlet was to be opened. They also sat on the road and blocked the road in protest. Police reached the spot and assured them that the outlet would not be opened. According to the residents of the area, setting up of the TASMAC outlet in an area where there are schools, colleges and apartments, would pose a threat to the general public.
