Coimbatore: A girl child who was abducted at the Pollachi Government Hospital was rescued within 24 hours due to the alertness of the city police.

Younis and Divya Bharathi hail from Kumaran Nagar near Pollachi in the Coimbatore district. The couple gave birth to a girl baby four days ago in the maternity and pediatric ward of the Pollachi Government Hospital. It is reported that two unidentified persons entered the labour ward at around 4 am on Sunday and abducted the baby. Divya Bharathi who woke up later was shocked to find that her baby was missing and raised an alarm.

Hearing Divya Bharati's cries, her relatives searched for the child everywhere in the hospital and then informed the police about the missing child. The police arrived at the spot and registered a case. The Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan visited the hospital and informed the parents that they would definitely trace the child and rescue her. Thereon, the police formed six separate teams to find the child and were engaged in an intensive search operation.

The police examined all the CCTV cameras in over 100 locations in Coimbatore, Ukkadam, Pollachi and the city. It was then discovered that two women had abducted the baby hidden in a sack. Subsequently, the police, who accelerated the investigation, started tracking the cell phone tower signal. The person who kidnapped the child was traced to Palakkad in Kerala. After that, a special force police team rushed to Kerala and nabbed a woman named Jamina (34) who had the baby.

On further investigation, it was discovered that the child was abducted from Pollachi Hospital, put in a sack and brought to Coimbatore and then taken to Palakkad by train. The woman also confessed that she had abducted the child to tell her husband that it was her child.

"Based on the complaint that the child was missing, as a first step with the help of the special force police, hospital administration and railway police, we safely rescued the child and handed it over to the mother within 24 hours. Also, in this case, it was the CCTV footage that was helpful in locating the child. One person has been arrested in the abduction case.

However, the police are presently looking for those involved in the kidnapping. Compulsory installation of CCTV in residential areas and public places is useful. We are still looking for the other woman who is probably connected to a child trafficking ring," stated the Coimbatore District SP.
