There should be no negligence in the security of Coimbatore city; step up vigil in bus stands - Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan

Night security at Gandhipuram bus stands should be strengthened. More policemen should be deployed for police patrolling duty at night. Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA from South constituency, said in a statement that the security of the city should not be neglected.

Coimbatore: Vanathi Srinivasan has requested the Coimbatore city police to ensure security at Gandhipuram bus stands.

In a statement, he said, "Coimbatore is the second largest industrial city in Tamil Nadu after chennai, the capital city. Thousands of people from other parts of Tamil Nadu, other states and other countries visit Coimbatore every day.

The most important place in Coimbatore is the local and outstation bus stands in Gandhipuram. Local and outstation travellers enter Coimbatore via Gandhipuram bus stand. From this bus stand they go to other areas as well. Most of the buses plying in Coimbatore are operated from here.

It is shocking that the bus stand, which is of such importance, has become unsafe at night. Nowadays, women, especially college girls, have to travel day and night without time. Women and girls travel in the belief that bus stands are safe and risk-free. Their families are also sending it.

However, people complain that some private bus drivers are coming to work at gandhipuram city bus stand under the influence of alcohol. Drunk drivers forget about their self-sufficiency and occasionally engage in a brawl with the passengers. As a result, the public, especially women, are scared.

There has been an increase in attacks on passengers and behaving disrespectfully. As the government bus employees were attacked a few days ago, they stopped the buses and staged a protest. Due to this, the passengers were put to great difficulty.

They have complained to my Coimbatore South assembly constituency office that the harassment of anti-social elements has also increased during the night hours and that there has been an increase in the problems of threatening them for money and overcharging in toilets.

Therefore, coimbatore corporation, city police and district administration should intervene in the issue and strengthen night security at Gandhipuram bus stands. More policemen should be deployed for police patrolling duty at night.

Strict action should be taken against the drivers, conductors and those indulging in anti-social activities. I urge you not to be negligent in the security of Coimbatore city.”
