DPIIT reforms empowering Indian Industries for a global growth, says Minister Piyush Goyal in Coimbatore

CII in association with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India and Invest India organised an exclusive industry interaction with Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Government of India at Coimbatore today.


Coimbatore: Addressing the industry members, Minister stated the importance of launching the ONDC network (Open Network for Digital Commerce), which has the potential to break barriers, enabling and empowering customers to engage with sellers of their choice seamlessly. He stated that the present eCommerce platforms are restrictive and favour products of the platform developers’ choice. Through ONDC, MSMEs and startups can harness opportunities provided by digital advancement in connecting to their customers.

Addressing to the queries raised by industry members from the Textile, Light Engineering and ICT sector, Minister stated that, India as a country, which is now a $3 trillion economy has grown due to its trustworthiness, decisive leadership and its democratic structure favouring transparency at all levels. He also stated that the country has announced stable policy framework and has respected every investment made across sectors.



Suggestion on importance of diversification and expansion to newer economies like Japan for Textiles was welcomed by the Hon’ble Minister and he said the Ministry will support this endeavour.

Representations on integrating multiple accreditations necessitated for the Pump industry was assured towards resolution within a few days, by the Hon’ble Minister. He also assured that all the suggestions provided by the sectoral representatives will be duly considered and wherever possible will be resolved in a month’s time.

Minister also stated that the industry members can mentor projects done by students in an institution like NIFT and conversely, NIFT can offer training and workshops for skill development of employees

Kamal Bali, Deputy Chairman, CII Southern Region & Managing Director, Volvo Group (India) Pvt Ltd, thanking the Hon’ble Minister for his presence highlighted that CII at Coimbatore is envisioning “Coimbatore NXT”, an initiative that will make the industries in and around Coimbatore competitive and also make Coimbatore an attractive destination for investments.



CII Tamil Nadu leadership Shankar Vanavarayar and CII Coimbatore leadership, Prashanth and Arjun Prakash highlighted to the Minister, some special needs for industrial development such as, design capacity augmentation, creating high value added jobs, high value products and enriching innovation capacity for capturing global markets.

Rajendra Ratnoo, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce, V K Singh, Special Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, spoke on the various reforms launched by their respective ministries for the benefit of industry. L Murugan, Minister of State for Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Information and Broadcasting, was also present at the occasion.
