Agnipath Scheme Protests: Democratic Youth Federation of India members arrested for laying siege to Coimbatore railway station

The DYFI clashed with the police at the Coimbatore Railway Station demanding the cancellation of the Central Government's Agnipath Scheme to recruit youth on a contract basis.

Coimbatore: Protesting against the recently-launched Agnipath Scheme of the Central Government, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) besieged the Coimbatore railway station and staged a protest.

They demanded the cancellation of the Central Government's Agnipath Scheme to recruit youth on a contract basis and held a series of protests in various states across India.

As part of these protests, the members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) besieged the Coimbatore railway station, chanting slogans condemning the Central Government and condemning the Agnipath Scheme.

A tug of war between the police and the DYFI members ensued and the youth tried to enter the railway station in defiance of the iron barriers set up by the police.

The police subsequently arrested more than 20 members of DYFI who tried to break through the barrier.

The District Secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, Kanagaraj said, "The Central Government seeks to outsource the military sector on a contract basis. The only job security is in the military. However, it is not acceptable to hire on a contract basis in that sector as well.

Moreover, the future of those young people who go to work after four years is in question. Also, in an environment where there should be more experienced soldiers in the military for security duty, It is dangerous to employ inexperienced people in the Indian Air Force and Navy,” he warned.
