Daily flights operating from Coimbatore International Airport increases to 28

The airport currently operates flights from Coimbatore to Sharjah, Singapore, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.

Coimbatore: Even as the number of daily flights operating from Coimbatore International Airport has been increased to 28, industry professionals welcomed the decision.

Coimbatore International Airport serves the people of the surrounding seven districts including Coimbatore. Earlier, 33 to 36 flights operated daily, with a footfall of 30 lakh passengers annually, which was before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thereafter, passenger traffic was severely affected and at one point, only five flights were operated daily.

With a steady decline in Covid cases, the number of passengers and air services at airports across the country is increasing due to efforts taken by the Central and State Governments. This has mainly been made possible through vaccination programs and preventive measures like wearing of masks and social distancing.

Coimbatore International Airport is also steadily returning to normal. As of today (June 14), the number of daily operators at the Coimbatore International Airport has increased to 28, including both domestic and foreign transport.

Commenting on the increase of flightsis, D Nandakumar, Director, Kongu Global Forum (KGF), stated:

“Currently, all airports, including Coimbatore are happy to be back to normal. The main reason for this is the swift action taken by the Central and State Governments. The number of people using the Coimbatore Airport is increasing for various reasons like tourism, career, education, and pilgrimage. Similarly, significant growth is seen in all the above sectors. This will greatly contribute to the development of all the districts under the Kongu Zone as a whole, including Coimbatore.”

The airport currently operates flights from Coimbatore to Sharjah, Singapore, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.
