Two arrested for selling lottery tickets near city's Velandavalam area; Lottery worth Rs.15,000 confiscated

KG Chavadi Police arrested two men in the city for selling lottery tickets banned by the Tamil Nadu Government, near Velandavalam on the Kerala- Tamil Nadu border.


Coimbatore: The KG Chavadi police were informed that lotteries banned by the Tamil Nadu Government were being bought from Kerala and sold at high prices in the border areas comprising Valayaru and Velandavalam on the Kerala border. Following this, the KG Chavadi police patrolled near the Velandavalam check post.

A person standing in the area was questioned by the police and it was discovered that he had Kerala lotteries. Following the interrogation, it was revealed that the person was Sakthivel (42) from Palakkad who was emplyed in a tea shop bought lotteries from Kerala and sold them in Tamil Nadu. Sakthivel was then arrested.

Similarly, police patrolling on the Velandavalam-Pichanur Road nabbed a man who was standing suspiciously near the bus stand and found that he had lottery tickets from Kerala. After interrogating the man, it was found that he was Ravi (56) from Sulur who buys lotteries in Kerala and sells them at the state borders, in areas near Sulur. The police arrested the man.



The police have confiscated about Rs.15,000 worth of lottery tickets from both men who have been produced before a judge and imprisoned.
