Tamil Nadu tops Food Safety Rankings in India

For the first time, Tamil Nadu has topped the list in India for Food Safety with a record of 18 points more than last year.



Coimbatore: World Food Security Day is observed on June 7, every year, since 2018 and this year, Food Safety Day is being celebrated under the theme of "Safe Food is the Best Health."

Every year on the occasion of Food Safety Day, the Food Safety Standards Commission of India publishes the Food Safety Standards for India. The Food Safety Standards for 2022 list has been released by the Federal Food Safety Standards Commission. Tamil Nadu topped the list and achieved a record of 18 points more than last year by taking the first place.

The rankings are published in five areas comprising the number of officers working in the field of Food Safety, the number of persons approved by the Department of Food Safety, food testing and follow-up inspections, training of officers in the Department of Food Safety, and the contribution of consumers. Kerala had topped the list among major states last year.



While Tamil Nadu topped the list this year, Gujarat ranked 2nd and Maharashtra ranked 3rd. Tamil Nadu scored 82 points, Gujarat 77.5 points and Maharashtra 70 points. On Tuesday, the Union Minister of State for Health, Mansuk Mandavia, presented the award to P Senthilkumar, Commissioner of Food Safety and Special Task Force, Tamil Nadu, for his outstanding performance in various degrees and for spearheading Tamil Nadu to top the list.



Goa topped the list among smaller states, followed by Manipur and Sikkim. In the list of Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir topped the list, followed by Delhi at 2nd place and Chandigarh at 3rd place.
