Differently-abled man attempts to set himself on fire in front of Coimbatore District Collectorate

The man is reported to have been pushed to the extreme step of a self-immolation bid in front of the District Collectorate following inaction regarding his complaints at two police stations.

Coimbatore: Muhammed Sadik Basha (34) who hails from Mettupalayam and set up a real estate office on Kotagiri Road.

Recently, some people with political backing had threatened him to move out of his office. Obliging to their threats, Muhammed agreed to move out but asked them to give him some time. Soon after, unidentified men broke into his office, destroyed some of his belongings, and looted the rest.

Muhammed had registered a case with the Mettupalayam police regarding the incident but to no avail. So, he registered another case with the office of the Coimbatore District Inspector, but reportedly no action was taken regarding this incident.

As a desperate measure to highlight his problem, Muhammed arrived at the Coimbatore District Collectorate on Tuesday morning and attempted to set himself on fire.

Police officers who were on guard at the Collectorate premises noticed Muhammed's self-immolation bid and stopped him immediately, and then escorted him to the police station.
