Coimbatore District Collector initiates sapling planting drive on World Environment Day

An awareness marathon was conducted on behalf of the Government and private organizations.


Coimbatore: World Environment Day is observed on June 5, every year, and was celebrated in various places across the city on Sunday. An awareness marathon was conducted on behalf of the Government and private organizations.



An awareness program was also held on May 5 at the Coimbatore District Collectorate under the chairmanship of the District Collector G S Sameeran to maintain and protect the environment. During the event, the District Collector G S Sameeran offered saplings to the farmers.



The Collector also set free five parrots that he had been raising at his home. Then, the District Collector proceeded to plant saplings on the premises. The event was attended by many, including Government and forest officials.
