Fire at coir factory near Pollachi

Fire at a coir factory near pollachi caused extensive property damage. Luckily, the people made it out unscathed.

Coimbatore: There is a coconut fiber factory owned by Thirumalaisamy in Kodangipatti next to Pollachi. Here yesterday afternoon a bolt from the conveyor, at this private factory fell off.

They called welders to fix it. During the welding process, a spark accidentally fell on the coir nearby and caught fire.

People who worked there immediately tried to put it out but the fire spread too quickly and got out of control because coir is highly flammable.

They immediately informed the Pollachi Fire Station regarding the issue. Firefighters led by Station Officer Purushothaman brought the fire under control after a long struggle.

As a consequence, two motors and a part of the coir were burnt to ashes. This incident caused a stir in the area for some time.
