An 18-year-old youth who had kidnapped and raped a girl under the pretext of marrying her has been charged and jailed under various sections of the law, including POCSO Act.
Coimbatore: The perpetrator of sexual assault against a Class 8 student in Coimbatore has been arrested and subsequently jailed under the POCSO Act.
The 13-year-old girl was abducted and sexually harassed by an 18-year-old painter after being falsely lured by the youth that he would marry her.
It has been reported that the victim and the young man Basheer (18) from the Vellalore area of Coimbatore who worked as a painter, grew quite fond of each other. Basheer is said to have abducted the girl on Wednesday under the pretext of marrying her. The parents of the minor girl lodged a complaint at the All-Women’s Police Station at Coimbatore East that the girl was missing. Following this, the Women's Police Inspector, Davlat Nisha conducted an investigation to find the girl.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Basheer had abducted the girl under the pretext of marriage and raped her without marrying her.
Subsequently, Basheer was prosecuted and arrested under various sections of the law, including the POCSO Act, produced in Court and imprisoned.
