Estate worker from Assam critically injured in bear attack in Valparai tea plantation

The 21-year-old worker from Assam sustained serious injuries to his head and body, and was rushed to the Valparai Government Hospital.


Coimbatore: Assamese workers have been employed at the Manika Estate area near Valparai in Coimbatore district. On Thursday morning, more than 10 people were engaged in spraying pesticides on the tea plantations in an area called Senkuthuparai.



At around noon, a wild bear reportedly strayed into the area where the labourers were and injured a 21-year-old young migrant worker, Muthamurumu, from Assam. The youth sustained serious injuries to his head and body.



Those who worked nearby managed to chase away the bear, rescued Muthamurumu and rushed him to the Valparai Government Hospital since he was critically injured. He was later taken to the Pollachi Hospital for further treatment.
