Suspect of Tirupur's gruesome murder of woman and two sons found dead in dried-up well near Kangayam

The suspect was traced to be the woman's illicit lover who may have ended his life by suicide.


Tirupur: Even as Tirupur residents grappled with the gruesome murder of a young woman and her two sons in the city, it has been discovered that the body of her illicit lover who was wanted by the police was found in a dried-up well near Kangayam.

Muthumari (35) and her sons Dharnish (9) and Nitish (4) from Thiruvarur district lived with their family in a rented house in Balaji Nagar area of Sadarpalayam, Mettu Estate near Tirupur. Muthumari worked as a labourer for a private company in the area and had been living in Balaji Nagar area after being estranged from her husband due to a dispute. Moreover, it was reported that Muthumari had been having an extramarital affair and been living in with her lover and sons in Balaji Nagar.

On May 23, Muthumari’s house was seen locked for an unusually long time which aroused suspicion among the neighbours. When there was no response whatsoever from inside the house, the worried neighbours forced the door open. They were shocked to find Muthumari and her three sons lying dead, in a pool of blood. The Thirumuruganpoondi police were informed about this and rushed to the spot.



The bodies of the three victims were recovered and sent to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The police also seized crucial evidence including a bloody mat and iron rods from the scene. Fingerprint experts were called to the scene and fingerprints were recorded from the scene of the crime. Upon learning about this incident, the Municipal Police Commissioner AG Babu arrived at the spot and inspected the scene of the murder. The sniffer dog Vetri who was brought to the scene ran a short distance from the area but did not succeed in identifying anyone.

Since Muthumari's lover had also gone missing since the day of the triple murder, the police were actively involved in the search for the man. Also, eight task forces were set up on the orders of the Municipal Commissioner AG Babu to find the killer. Overall, about 150 policemen were involved in the search for the culprit.



According to the police, the perpetrator was suspected to be Gopal, also known as, Karthi (50) hailing from Porbandar in Gujarat. The police launched an all-out manhunt for Gopal in various areas including the railway station and the bus station. Initially, the police managed to seize a photograph of Gopal when he was working at a supermarket and began investigating.

Gopal was said to be spotted riding a bicycle in the Padiyur area of Kangayam and hence the police engaged in surveillance work in Padiyur. Gopal, meanwhile, was spotted wandering through Tirupur's urban areas for the past two days. On information, the police then began monitoring Tirupur's urban areas.

Meanwhile, the Kangayam police received a report on Wednesday morning that a man with a bicycle was lying dead in a dried-up well near Kangayam in Padiyur.



The Police rushed to the spot and seized the body which was identified to be that of Muthumari's illicit lover Gopal.



The Kangayam police seized the body and sent it to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

With regard to the murder of Muthumari and her sons, the police are investigating the angle that Gopal may have ended his life by suicide after learning that the police were looking for him. Meanwhile, Municipal Police Commissioner AG Babu visited and inspected the spot where Gopal's corpse was found.
