2,000 million units of electricity generated by wind farms in Tamil Nadu in last 2 months

Coimbatore: According to wind power generation officials, 2,000 million units of electricity have been generated by wind farms in Tamil Nadu in the last two months.

Renewable energy industries, including wind farms, play a key role in meeting the growing demand for electricity. A wind power generation facility has been set up in Tamil Nadu to generate 8,600 MW of electricity. Tamil Nadu usually witnesses strong winds from April to October. But the season for wind power generation this year started on March 15, a month earlier than usual. Power generators are happy that more power has been generated by wind farms in the past two months.

Kasturirangaiyan, President, Indian Wind Power Generators Association (IWPA) said, “With the daily power demand in Tamil Nadu rising to 15,000 MW, the wind farms are making a huge contribution to daily electricity consumption as the wind power generation season has started. Specifically, in March and April alone, 1,910 million units of electricity were generated by wind farms. The wind farms have witnessed an increase of 40 million units of electricity this year when compared to last year. We hope that the share of wind power generation in daily power consumption will continue to increase as stronger winds are expected in the coming months.”
