Man arrested for impersonating Govt. official and extorting money from public for certificates at North Tahsildar Office in Coimbatore

Revenue officials have warned of strict action against extortionists impersonating Government officials, especially at the Tahsildar offices in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Revenue officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in extorting money by impersonating Government officials, especially at the Tahsildar offices in Coimbatore.

Kesavamani (47) from Veerapandi had allegedly been impersonating a Government official and extorting money from the public at the North Tahsildar Office on Balasundaram Road in Coimbatore, claiming that he would obtain certificates quickly. Revenue officials subsequently lodged a complaint with the Race Course Police regarding the extortion.

The police, who registered a case based on the complaint, arrested Kesavamani at the North Tahsildar's office and interrogated him. The police produced him in court and remanded him in custody.

During the interrogation of Kesavamani, it was revealed that he was involved in money laundering by claiming that he would immediately obtain various certificates including caste and income certificates from the office for the public. Revenue officials have thus warned that strict action will be taken against those who deceive the public by claiming to be Government employees in Government offices.

They also said that no one should lose money by relying on intermediaries as the certificates required by the public including caste, income, location, widow, small/marginal farmer, heir, and property value will be issued by the e-service centers within the time frame of 15 days. In cases of delays or deficiencies in obtaining these certificates, the public have been advised to approach the Tahsildar or Deputy Tahsildar in person.
