Wildlife census intensifies at Coimbatore Anaimalai Tiger Reserve

The forest cover in the Reserve is divided into 10 sections in which the Forest Department is engaged in the task of surveying and accounting for wildlife.

Coimbatore: A wildlife survey is underway in full swing at Valparai Manampalli Wildlife Sanctuary under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve in Coimbatore district. Twice a year, wildlife surveys are conducted in the forest areas such as Valparai Manampalli and the data is handed over to the National Wildlife Administration as pre-rain wildlife survey work and winter wildlife survey work. This year, the summer survey kick-started on May 24 and will end on Tuesday, May 31, at the Valparai Manampalli Wildlife Sanctuary under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve.

The forest is divided into 10 sections in the Valparai Manampalli Wildlife Sanctuary and the Forest Department is engaged in the task of enumerating wildlife such as carnivores, herbivores and birds in a 20-line path. Led by the Valparai Forest Ranger Venkatesh, Vanavar Manikandan and Keerthi along with anti-hunting guards, the teams have been engaged in wildlife survey work within the forest area. The work intensified on Monday in the forest areas of Valparai, Kavars and Akkamalai.

The 8-day survey data will be handed over to the forest officials when the wildlife survey draws to a close on Tuesday.
