Coimbatore City Police planning to link feed from all CCTV cameras to traffic control room

The Coimbatore City Police is planning to link the feed of all the close-circuited television cameras (CCTVs) in the city to the traffic control room. The police say this will help them receive live feed of crimes and traffic violations.

They have asked telecom service providers to help link all the cameras to the room using the underground fibre optic cables they have laid.

The police commissioner, A Amal Raj, on Tuesday conducted a meeting with collector Archana Patnaik, deputy commissioner Nisha Parthiban, five contractors who have taken up setting up and maintenance of traffic signals, and the telecom service providers.

"We want the feed recorded by the CCTV cameras to be linked to the control room, where we are going to set up a video wall like a modern control room," said commissioner, Amal Raj.

"We have asked the contractors to set up CCTVs with a clarity of five mega pixel, so we can get clear live feed and the telecom service providers like Vodafone, Airtel, BSNL, Aircel and Idea to transmit the digital signals from the cameras to the control room," he said.
