First-level checking of voting machines conducted in Ooty

First level checking of EVMs was launched in Ooty on Feb 4, 2016. As many as 812 EVMs, brought from Maharashtra state, have been kept in a sealed locker at a warehouse in the office of the additional collector in Ooty.

On Feb 4, in the presence of all party representatives and higher officials, the warehouse was opened to conduct the first round of checking the EVMs. Two technical officers from Bharath Electronics, Raghavan and Rajalakshmi have been deputed to carry out the operation of scrutinizing the EVMs along with 60 election officers.

According to officials, the first level checking of the 812 voting machines will take at least one week. During the checking operation, any registrations found in the machines will be deleted promptly and rechecking will be done accordingly, said a press release from the Nilgiris Collector, P Sankar, who inspected the operation.

As part of security drill, police have been deployed at the venue round the clock. The checking operation of EVMs is being carried out under the supervision of revenue officials including the district revenue officer and revenue divisional officers.

After the first level checking operation, all the 812 EVMs will be returned to the locker at the same warehouse.
