Awareness programmes held

Awareness rallies and programmes organised by hospitals and education institutions here marked the World Cancer Day. Kovai Medical Centre Hospital (KMCH) organised a signature campaign at the Coimbatore Railway Junction with the theme “We CAN CERtainly fight against cancer.”

The campaign organised as part of Coimbatore Vizha was first signed by Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan. The hospital director, Arun N. Palaniswami, hospital and railway officials were present during the campaign in which more than 3,500 people affixed their signatures.

Pamphlets too were distributed as part of the event. The hospital recently screened 500 women in and around Coimbatore for breast and cervical cancer. About 25,000 women would be screened this year. Students of CMCH took out a rally to create awareness on cancer.

The rally was flagged off by City Police Commissioner A. Amalaraj at the CMCH. It was followed by a continuous medical education programme on cancer for the students.

Staff of Ashwin PPG Cancer Hospital and students of their group of institutions took part in a rally from Women’s Polytechnic to VOC Park to mark the day. Their college buses went around the city carrying posters, and distributed pamphlets.
