Applications invited from Christians for state-aided pilgrimage to Jerusalem

The district administration has invited applications from people from Christian community who are interested to avail state-funded pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

A press release states that 'Applications are invited from Christians residing in Tamilnadu who want assistance, Under the Tamilnadu government’s scheme to go on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The trip will cover Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Jordan River, Galileo Sea and places scared places of worship. A few places might be removed from the list according to the current security situations prevailing in those places. The trip will commence between February 2017 to March 2017.

Following are the criterion proposed for applying for the assistance are:

*Applicant or their family should be a resident of Tamilnadu for which any one of the following proofs should be submitted - Transfer
certificate of an educational institute, Baptism Certificate and certificate from Thasildar.

*Should posses a valid passport with a validity of at least one year as on 01.01.2017.

*There should not be any encumbrances for travelling to a foreign country.

*The applicants should be medically and physically fit to undertake a foreign trip and should obtain a fitness certificate from a certified doctor.

*The applicants should take up the entire cost of travel. An amount of Rs. 20000 will be reimbursed by the Government of Tamilnadu upon their return.

* Only Four members from a family can embark on this journey including the applicant. Two children who are more than 2 years old can also be in the travel party. For senior citizens who are above the age of 70 years can bring a person of their choice for assisting them.

* Those who have already benefited from this scheme cannot apply.

* A screening committee will chose the beneficiaries through a LOT system using a computer. The chosen beneficiaries should make their trips only through the travel agents who are authorized by the government. The total duration of the trip will be 10 days.

*The trip will start from Chennai and end in Chennai. The trip itinerary will be decided by the Jerusalem holy committee.

*The applicant should mention the preferred month of their travel but the actual dates will be decided by the committee.

*The filled applications with all the required documents should reach the following address on or before 16.12.2016.

The applications can be bought from District Backward and Minority Welfare department office at the Coimbatore Collector office.
