Palakkad-Erode MEMU train on Coimbatore route resumes services from today

Passengers had been demanding that the train services be resumed for the convenience of college students and commuters who work in Palakkad, Coimbatore and Tirupur.


Coimbatore: The Palakkad-Erode MEMU train on the Coimbatore route resumed operations from Friday, July 29 by popular demand from commuters.

In 2020, the MEMU train service from Palakkad to Erode on the Coimbatore route was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The train had not been operated for the last two years. Hence, passengers from Palakkad, Coimbatore and Tirupur who had been greatly inconvenienced have been continuously demanding that the train services should be resumed for the convenience of college students and commuters who work.

A press release issued by the Salem Divisional Railway Administration stated, "Train No.06818 Palakkad – Palakkad – Erode train will leave Palakkad at 2.52 pm except on Thursdays from July 29 and reach Erode at 7.10 pm. Train No. 06819 Erode – Erode train will leave Erode at 7.15 am except on Thursdays from July 30 and reach Palakkad Town Station at 11.45 am. The train will stop at Thottipalayam, Perundurai, Ingur, Vijayamangalam, Uthukuli, Tirupur, Vanjipalayam, Somanur, Sulur Road, Irugur, Singanallur, Peelamedu, Vadakovai, Coimbatore, Podanur, Madukkarai, Ettimadai, Walayar and Kanjikode. Similarly, the Erode-Coimbatore MEMU train will be rescheduled from July 29. Accordingly, the Erode-Coimbatore MEMU train (06801) will leave at 7.50 am instead of 7.15 am. The train will reach Coimbatore railway station at 10.15 am. The train will stop at Thottipalayam, Perundurai, Ingur, Vijayamangalam, Uthukuli, Tirupur, Vanjipalayam, Somanur, Sulur Road, Irugur, Singanallur, Peelamedu and Vadakovai."
