Passengers disappointed as Pollachi-Tiruchendur express train is cancelled

Passengers disappointed at cancellation of the Pollachi-Tiruchendur express train that was to be operated from December 16.

Pollachi: Passengers were disappointed upon the cancellation of the Pollachi-Tiruchendur express train that was to be operated from December 16.

Passengers trains are operated between Pollachi-Tiruchendure since 2015 after the completion of broad rail line work between Coimbatore and Dindigul. The route was then extended to Palakkad, benefiting people going to southern districts including Madurai, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi.

The Tiruchendur train was suspended last year on the grounds of Covid-19 infections. Various parties demanded that the operation be resumed to Tiruchendur. The Southern Railway administration announced recently that a special express train would run daily from Pollachi to Tiruchendur after a gap of a year and a half. The announcement stated that the train would run from Tiruchendur to Pollachi on December 15 and from Pollachi to Tiruchendur on December 16.

But much to the disappointment of travellers, the Railway administration has now announced that the express train will not be operated from December 15 and the date announced will be temporarily postponed.
