Holiday declared for schools in 7 districts including Chennai on Friday

The Chennai Met Dept. has forecast rain for the next three days in Chennai as the atmospheric overlay strengthens into a storm.


Coimbatore: Schools will remain shut on Friday in seven districts including Chennai and Thiruvallur with heavy rains forecast for the next three days.

The atmospheric overlay cycle between Puducherry and Cuddalore strengthened into a cyclonic storm and crossed the coast between Harikota and Chennai in the evening. The Chennai Meteorological Department has warned of continuous rainfall for three consecutive days. The Government has now declared a holiday for schools in seven districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Cuddalore.

Widespread rainfall across the districts of Tamil Nadu in the last few days has led the respective District Collectors to declare holidays depending on the rainfall in the districts.

The District Collector of Vellore, P Kumaravel Pandian has now declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the city on Friday. Schools and colleges will remain shut on Friday in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur districts due to heavy rains. Schools in Cuddalore and Villupuram district will be closed only on Friday.
